The Sloppy SearchIt has its consequences!
Unfortunately, many first-time homebuyers don't find an agentthe agent finds them!
Instead of interviewing several agents on their own, they stumble across them while visiting open houses or brokerage firms. Always looking for new clients, the agent might impress the homebuyer with his or her apparent knowledge. BUT that's a haphazard, hit-or-miss method for hiring a qualified, compatible person.
The Systematic SearchA better system.
Try this 3-step approach instead:
A Ask friends and associates for referrals.
Call several agents, and meet with the brighter prospects to discuss your home search. Pay very close attention to their qualifications, and their personality. Is it a good match?
B Make sure they have the experience, training and support you need.
Do they have experience listing homes or assisting buyers in the neighborhoods where you're looking?
How many sale transactions did they close in the last year?
Can they find the type of home and your wish list of features in the neighborhoods you're interested in?
C Decide HOW the agent will represent you...
HOW your agent represents you is just as important as WHO represents you. Knowing the differences between a seller's agent and buyer broker is absolutely critical.
